Meet The Counseling Office
In the counseling office, we have our wonderful Counseling Technician- Amy Milani, our Registrar- Mo Orffelt, our Community Liaison- Carmen Moreno, and our four credentialed School Counselors. San Marin is also lucky enough to have a College and Career Specialist, Vivian Jensen, who we share with Novato High School. Vivian Jensen is on campus 2-3 days a week and is located in the library. Your School Counselors are Karla Lopez, Julia Embry, Tate Dobbins, and Jim Hu. Each school counselor holds a Pupil Personnel Service credential, a Master's Degree in Counseling, and upholds the ethical and professional standards of the American School Counseling Association (ASCA).
Our Mission
San Marin High School’s counseling department strives to create a comprehensive, four-year program to educate, support, and inspire students in academic, social-emotional, and college and career readiness. Offering direct and indirect services, we are responsible for providing an equitable, data-driven program that advocates for all students. We strive to promote a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and creative learning environment by breaking down barriers and inspiring students to achieve their biggest goals.

Resources
Students
- Drop in: Students may meet with their counselors on a drop-in basis before school, during break or lunch, and after school. This method is best if you have a quick question or concern.
- Appointment: Students may make an appointment to see their counselor by scanning the QR code on the counselors door. Your counselors will send you a pass as soon as they can for a scheduled meeting.
- Email: Sending your counselor an email saves students from missing important class instruction. Emailing your counselor is a quick and easy way to get answers to your questions and concerns.
Guardians
- If you have questions about your student’s current grade or course content, please contact the teacher directly. You may also use Aeries to monitor your student’s progress in his or her classes. Counselors do not have additional information regarding specific classes, so teachers will be best equipped to inform and guide you.
- If you have a general question or concern for your student’s counselor, the most expedient way to contact him or her is through email. You can also contact your student’s counselor through voicemail. Please keep in mind that if you’re calling about a teacher-related issue, we ask that you have communicated with the teacher first.
