Parent Engagement

A group of women laugh and chat together at a table outdoors.

We warmly encourage parents to become active participants in our school's learning community. Events like Back to School Night provide excellent opportunities for parents to connect with staff and support their child's academic journey. By attending or volunteering at performances and events, parents can further engage with the school community.

Our English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC) meets once a month, offering parents a platform to contribute to the educational experience of English learners. For those interested in shaping our educational programs and financial planning, our School Site Council actively welcomes parental input.

We prioritize open and frequent communication through weekly updates in the San Marin Sun and our Principal's messages. Additionally, regular communication via ParentSquare helps keep families informed and involved in all school activities.

Facilities

San Marin High School was originally constructed in 1968 and is comprised of 50 classrooms, 2 dedicated physical science laboratories, 2 gyms, a student center, library, college and career center, computer lab, school cafeteria, and athletic facilities. Recent remodeling modernized nearly every building on campus.

The school’s library, staffed by a Library Media Clerk, provides an extensive variety of reference and special interest materials, and hundreds of educational and recreational books. Students visit the library on a daily/weekly basis with their classes.

In addition, several new facilities are under construction at San Marin High, with funding from Bond Measure G.  A brand new 18,000 square foot STEM classroom/laboratory building was completed in Fall 2020.  A new 7,800 square foot Performing Arts Center was started in September 2019 and should be complete in Winter 2021.  And in June 2021, we began modernizing outdoor athletic facilities, converting the existing softball and baseball fields to synthetic turf and updating the backstop, dugouts, bullpens, and batting cage.

Technology Resources

Students in grades 6–12 are assigned individual Chromebooks that they use both at school and at home. These devices support educational learning across all grade levels.

All teaching classrooms are equipped with a comprehensive teacher toolkit that includes a flat-screen TV, an Apple TV and/or Chromebox, and an iPad to enhance instruction and facilitate technology-driven learning experiences. Additionally, all classrooms, libraries, and administrative buildings are fully connected to the internet with campus-wide Wi-Fi access, ensuring seamless connectivity. NUSD students and teachers use Google Workspace for Education to collaborate, communicate, and create. This platform supports everything from classroom assignments and shared projects to email and secure data storage.

To safeguard online learning, NUSD employs a robust content filtering system, a next-generation firewall, and additional cybersecurity measures to protect students, staff, and the integrity of the district’s digital infrastructure.
